As a privately owned rescue, its common that people have questions about our practices, structure, and goals.

We have outlined many of the different aspects about us below but if you still have questions please feel free to contact us or even come for a visit!

Habituation

Many people see the various litters we get in the spring and immediately want to cuddle the adorable fur babies. However,  when we have animals that are up for a potential release we try to limit human interactions. Aside from bottle feeding and brief showings for educational purposes, we try and keep our animals wary of humans so that they do not become habituated.

The habituation of wildlife to humans can cause many problems for both the animals and the humans they are around. If wild animals come to realize that humans can be kind and a source of food they can become overly trusting of the wrong people or can even become extremely aggressive if hungry.

Why are we private?

Many people think that animals rescues should be non-profits and/or government funded. This isn't wrong. However, at Ringtails Unleashed we are working hard to set up a strong foundation for the future of this rescue. This involves creating business plans and securing funding sources. Working as a private rescue allows us the freedom to develop our business for the future. We plan to become a non-profit once our rescue is mature.
